Weeks 7 – 9

Cleaning Parts

We used an orange compound to clean parts, and a white one to polish them. Each individual fork (the metal poles in the wheel) needed to be cleaned, which was very time-consuming.

In addition to the parts polish, we used the part cleaner for tougher cleaning jobs.

The parts team worked hard prepping each bike component for reassembly.

Electrical System

While testing the electrical system, we mounted the stator coil on a testing apparatus and generated a current by spinning the magnetic rotor inside.

Maintenance on the 63′

In addition to working on the 65′ Tiger Cub, we have also been working on a 63′ model. In order to have easier access to the engine, we raised the bike up on a lift.

We opened up the 63’s engine case to take a look at inside components–cleaning and repairing different miscellaneous components.

Buffing and Cleaning

The mud guards came to us a bit beat up and dented, so we needed to use metal rollers to clean up and straighten the metal.

After the mud guards were painted, we cleaned any remaining dirt and debris off the surface. Afterwards, we gave the guards a good polish.

Wheel Assembly

Visitor Bill Becker assisted the wheels team in putting the clean spokes into the wheel hub. Each spoke needed to be tightened to the perfect tension to make the wheel assembly stable.

Assembling the Engine

After each part of the engine was cleaned and repaired. we took each component and assembled the entire engine. Once finished, we will install the engine in the frame.

The engine case split open, exposing the internal components (sans one crankshaft).
