Chapter 18: Beijing 798 Art District 北京798艺术区

近30年来，中国人的改变是多方面的，除了饮食习惯、生活方式以外，在时尚的追求上也有了新的喜好；[3] 尤其是有钱人，在有了豪宅[4] 、名车[5] 之后，就想收藏[6] 些名贵[7] 的艺术品[8] 来装饰[9] 他的家和办公室。因此，中国艺术品市场近几年来蓬勃发展；[10] 社会上多了许多从事艺术创作[11] 的职业[12] 画家、书法家、雕刻[13] 家和音乐的演奏[14] 者。北京798艺术区的兴起就是这个改变最好的证明。

我来中国之前就听说过，北京有个艺术家聚集[15] 的798艺术区，今天，我从学校用“滴滴出行”[16] 叫了一部[17] 车，用“支付宝”[18] 付了车费。在北京生活，只要有个手机，从叫车，订餐[19] 到购物[20] ，付款[21] 都可以用手机来处理，几乎可以不用现金[22] 了，真方便！
新中国成立[23] （1949）不久，政府在798这个地区建了不少工厂，用来发展中国工业。但几十年下来，厂房[24] 年久失修[25] ，破旧不堪[26] ，国营[27] 企业[28] 在改革开放中，有的改为民营，[29] 这些厂房就废弃[30] 不用了。2000年前后，有几个北京的艺术家就利用这些旧[31] 厂房，改造[32] 成了他们的画室[33] ，并举办[34] 画展[35] 。这样一传[36] 十，十传百，十几年下来，聚集到这个地区来的艺术家就越来越多了。现在不但有画家还有雕刻家、摄影[37] 师和从事传统工艺[38] 美术[39] 品创作的工匠[40] 和小贩[41] 。有一家专[42] 卖中国传统油纸[43] 雨伞的小店，店里的每一把雨伞都有艺术家独特[44] 的创作。我以前只知道中国人的扇子[45] 很讲究，扇子上又有书法又有画，没想到连雨伞也可以做为艺术品。

去798 参观的外国人也很多，他们惊喜[46] 地发现，在交通堵塞[47] ，雾霾严重，生活紧张的北京城里，居然[48] 还有这么一片[49] 属于[50] 艺术家的小天地。[51] 在这里，他们画画，摄影，雕刻，制作[52] 工艺品，通过艺术的手法[53] 来表现自己，来赚取[54] 自己的生活费。我很羡慕[55] 他们，也很佩服[56] 他们。
