GABRIELE MÜNTER PHOTOGRAPHER OF AMERICA 1898-1900

A productive painter of der Blaue Reiter school of expressionism, Gabrielle Münter was overshadowed during her lifetime by her extraordinarily gifted teacher and lover, Wasilly Kandinsky. There is almost no awareness of Münter’s American connection, in particular, the hundreds of photographs she took in Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas in 1898-1900. These photographs are the focus of this study.
