A productive painter of der Blaue Reiter school of expressionism, Gabrielle Münter was overshadowed during her lifetime by her extraordinarily gifted teacher and lover, Wasilly Kandinsky. There is almost no awareness of Münter’s American connection, in particular, the hundreds of photographs she took in Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas in 1898-1900. These photographs are the focus of this study.

The Burgh Halls of Maryhill – a north-western district of Glasgow — are adorned by twenty stained glass panels of extraordinary power, beauty, and originality. Created between 1877 and 1881 by the barely thirty-year old artist, Stephen Adam, these panels are unique among stained glass works of the time in that they celebrate contemporary themes of industrial labor.

A reconsideration of a group of early 19th-century artists, usually referred to as the “Nazarenes.” Widely celebrated and influential in their own time, they are now no longer well known or highly regarded outside their native Germany.
