During the first few classes, we sorted parts from previous motorcycles and looked inside one of the old engines to start learning where all of the different parts go.

Next, we started taking apart the engine and assessed which parts needed to be replaced. Many of the fasteners were not in good condition, and the chain was extremely stretched.

We also counted the teeth on each gear to determine what speeds the motorcycle is capable of.

All of the parts were sorted, labeled, and cleaned in the parts cleaner.

We also went to the MAE shop to modify a custom tool from last year and use it to press out a bearing that needed to be replaced.

This week 31 March we went back to the MAE shop to tap one of the holes on the engine case in order to fix the ruined threads.

Will also cleaned up the edges of the engine casing in preparation for reassembly and to ensure a perfect seal.

It is mid April and we’ve finally got all the parts cleaned, and replacement parts have arrived. We we went down to the MAE shop and pressed out the old bearing and pressed in the new bearing and seals.

April 18th After verifying that the flywheel is centered we began the bottom end assembly process.

The flywheel is now installed. We used liquid gasket to sealed the plates.

April 20th we began installing the rotor, chain, and clutch basket components.
