1
Day and night the chains rumble; //
Day and night the torrents of steel //
Flow from the furnaces into the moulds. //
In the brilliant, fiery light.
2
And the cauldrons, having shown their maws, //
Tear the stokers into pieces, //
“Hey, comrade, don’t waste time; //
Make haste with more coal!
3
Or else the furnaces will cool down, //
The machines' shoulders will grow tired; //
And lights will go out everywhere, //
In short: there will be terrible damage!”
4
The furnaces here are personified and look monstrous or angry, this may be a commentary on vulgar Marxism and the personification of the machine in the early Soviet period.
5
The workers are struggling to push the carts as quickly as they can to feed the demanding machines.
