Project Description

The Catio is a wooden and acrylic window sitting area for a (my) cat. The wood is painted white and the acrylic is left its natural color. The purpose is to allow my cat to enjoy the outdoors while still safe inside (i.e. apartment complexes). The Catio is 24ft x 12ft x 12ft with some extended safety features. It is the perfect size to safely fit inside of a 2 foot-wide window. The top and back are made of acrylic. The top is a flat surface that provides both sunlight and protection from rain. The back acrylic surface has 1in laser cut holes to allow a breeze and a view out, mimicking the feeling of being out doors. The sides and bottom are made of wood to keep the project cost low. The pieces are joined by screws and acrylic drill holes were laser cut. Chloroform is used to join the acrylic pieces where they meet one another. The safety features include two wooden 6in wide panels that rest against the wall surrounding the window opening. The second are two wooden pieces on the top spaced just enough to hold the window in place. Insulation is optional and can be used, as needed, between the side panels and the wall. The idea is to have the Catio sit in the window like an A/C unit
