And not just stories about the stakes, which we know are high, but <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stories about the places we call home. Stories about our own small corners of the Earth as we know <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">them. As we love them.\u201d<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Collectively as a class, this digital project will bring together neglected <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stories, peoples, and experiences of war and militarization<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">our \u201ccorners of the earth\u201d<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and bring <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">attention to the<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">global impact of militarization<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in regions across the U.S. and the Asia<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Pacific<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"textLayer--absolute\" role=\"presentation\" \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Students in HIS486<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> built on<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">themes and<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">theories discussed in class to heed Aguon\u2019s call for action, <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">resistance,<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">healing<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">through storytelling<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and mapping. <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">For their midterm project,<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">students<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">worked in groups<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to assemble a<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">multi<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">media <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">digital project that<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">analyzes<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">historical impact<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of war<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" militarism on<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">women and\/or <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">historically marginalized groups in<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">their assigned region in the Asia<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Pacific<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">, including but not limited<\/span><br class=\"textLayer--absolute\" role=\"presentation\" \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ArcGIS Story Maps provided the space for students to think <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">spatially and creatively with primar<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">y<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">sources<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and to contextualize marginalized experiences in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">military<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">occupied and\/or colonized
