Invasion of the Goths

 

While we can hardly expect those whom they defeated to have appreciated this aspect, invasions by “barbarian” groups such as the Goths have been an important part of globalization throughout history. Whether attacking westwards towards the old Roman Empire or eastwards towards the Chinese, these groups have served as carriers of new traditions as well as successors to old ones. The culture of Medieval Europe cannot be understood without the Gothic influence and the manner in which they changed but also rejuvenated Roman practices.
