A small resistor of 2Ohm is connected in serial with the coil.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Measurement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Fix a bar magnet (in Savary\u2019s experiment a wire is used instead of magnet) on the table, make the orientation of the magnet the same as earth magnetic field ;<\/li>\n<li>Suspend the needle in horizontal plane and put the center of needle right above the center of magnet;<\/li>\n<li>Magnetize the needle and rotate it to be perpendicular with the magnet;<\/li>\n<li>Release the needle and start timing;<\/li>\n<li>Count the time of 30 oscillations.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1771\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.princeton.edu\/josephhenry\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2018\/07\/photo-2-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"379\" height=\"512\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Experiment Setup Magnetization Wrap a steel needle with insulated wire; Connect the wire with power supply operating under constant current mode.
