Backround:
I spent this semester in Community Project Studios attempting to study simple blueprints for an electronic midi controller that I could build in the studio. I scoured the web for workable projects, but kept running into inconsistent parts availability and could not find a simple enough project with minimal reliance on Arduino code that I wanted to pursue. I learned a lot about basic circuit design and the roles of potentiometers in editing midi values through the circuit’s current, but I decided that I was not going to be able to create a product I would actually want to use with the limited time I would have to work on it in the studio hours.
I was briefly working with an electronics project kit where I was able to complete some basic circuit designs on a breadboard. These were informative and more approachable projects which satisfied my curiosity about circuitry. These projects provided the code for the Arduino which powered the circuits and were helpful for learning circuitry without having to learn code, which was never my priority.
I consulted with Taka and decided that next semester I’ll switch to a carpentry project. I’m fairly certain that I’ll end up trying to create a collapsable coffee table, and I’ll source the wood over the summer and be ready to complete the project over the next semester. I’ve done some basic woodworking before, so the project will be much simpler and faster to complete than the midi project would have been. I’m looking forward to the next semester of CPS.
